Meet the Team
Alison Romano, M.P.H.
As Membership Manager, I work to ensure that anybody interested in birds and the overall health of our ecosystem has the opportunity to contribute to the important research conducted at Point Blue Conservation Science. A firm believer that we all have the ability and responsibility to be good stewards of our home planet, I am proud to work with an organization whose mission is to better the quality of life for all species via science, education and partnerships.
As a Texan born and raised around the Gulf of Mexico in an area heavily immersed in upstream and downstream oil and gas production, I have long been aware of the impact our species has on individuals – human and otherwise – further down the food chain. As an undergraduate, I pursued a liberal arts education that helped me establish a ‘big picture’ perspective on the inter-connectedness of all things. Early in my career, I directed organizations aimed at improving the health and well-being of marginalized populations. I have had the privilege of working with many smart and dedicated teams of people and have won national and governmental recognition for best practices in the fields of housing and homelessness. Pursuant to directing the communications department at the honors college of a large tier-one university, I went back to school for a graduate degree in Public Health at Johns Hopkins, concentrating on Health in Crisis and Humanitarian Assistance.
My hobbies include reading, spending unplanned and whole days researching random interests, kayaking, art collecting, painting-by-numbers and deploying to disaster locations to help with the search, rescue and housing of displaced pets and livestock. Especially near and dear to me are Baltimore and the Arctic and other places where wild things roam.
When not at Point Blue in our Petaluma office or learning about Point Blue’s many projects out in the field, I can be found hanging out with my dog and friends at home in Bolinas, kayaking down the Blanco River at my house in Central Texas or staring out into space at the wonder of it all.
My resume is available here.
