We hope you are all staying healthy during these difficult times. After speaking with the Yosemite Bug, we have decided to cancel the SMP Annual Gathering that was scheduled for May 26-28, 2020 because of concerns about COVID-19 and difficulties coordinating and securing speakers in light of the pandemic. The Bug also did not want to host a large gathering, understandably.
If you registered for the conference and reserved a room at the Bug, you may have already gotten an email cancelling your reservation. I had asked the Bug to hold off on canceling reservations until we had a chance to speak with our membership, but it appears they went ahead and canceled already, so I apologize if you received a cancelation email before hearing from us directly.
We are exploring alternative options, such as postponing the gathering to later this year, hosting an online webinar (or webinars) so people can present their talks, and/or including the talks as part of upcoming SMP bimonthly calls. If you have ideas, please let us know.
Thanks to those of you who had registered and those that had agreed to be presenters. Special thanks to Tim Kuhn and staff at Yosemite National Park for helping secure a venue and organizing a field trip, and I hope we can visit YNP’s field trip sites as a group at a later time.
