Larissa Babicz

Avian Banding Supervisor

As the bird banding supervisor at the Palomarin Field Station, my primary role is to train banding apprentices and other early-career scientists. I also conduct bird surveys in other parts of Marin County and the Presidio.

I grew up in Northampton, Pennsylvania, and received my B.S. in Biology at Dickinson College. I developed an interest in working in the field while still in college, and after a couple of seasonal jobs post-graduation I realized that birds were my passion. I first came to Point Blue as a bird banding apprentice in 2022 and continued to work as a bander in North Carolina and Alaska before returning to the Palomarin Field Station. I’m most excited about studying molt in birds and teaching! I love being able to share what I’ve learned with others.

When I’m not doing field work, I can be found at the Palomarin Field Station. Outside of work, I love to go hiking, bake pastries, and spend my evenings painting.
