Point Blue’s decades-long studies of environmental change show that the effects of climate change are continuing to escalate. That’s why we have recently re-doubled our efforts to take unprecedented action to ensure that human and wildlife communities continue to thrive in the decades to come. We call it climate-smart conservation.

Climate-smart conservation addresses climate change impacts and other threats by using nature-based approaches to:

  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions
  • Enhance the benefits nature provides to humans—clean air, fresh water, fisheries, pollination, recreation, climate and flood control
  • Improve the abilities of wildlife and people to adapt to the rapidly changing climate

Over the next five years, we will focus on climate-smart conservation throughout California, as well as on disseminating this approach to a global network of collaborators. Our goals are to ensure that climate-smart conservation is implemented as broadly as possible and to help natural resource decision-makers understand their choices in the face of change.

By working together, we can help ensure that our plans, policies and actions maximize nature’s benefits for humans as well as wildlife.
