Paul DeBenedictis (Nov. 8, 1942 - May 3, 2006) was one of Point Blue’s (then Point Reyes Bird Observatory) first hired naturalists in 1965. Today his family remains a pillar of our conservation community.
“Donating to Point Blue has been a way to honor Paul and to support the passion and work he began at Point Reyes in 1965. He would be so proud of the excellence with which Point Blue pursues that work today.”
-Virginia DeBenedictis (Paul’s wife)
“You can't understand long-term trends in the environment or really anything else, unless you measure them, carefully, over a long time horizon. Point Blue has both really well established methodologies and tools for measuring things like bird populations, seabird behavior, etc. AND a really long time horizon (60+ years!). That combination is hard to beat.” Tim DeBenedictis (Paul’s son)
