John Rathkey

Director

John Rathkey is a retired software engineer whose passion for birding, conservation, and conservation science was sparked, and is still guided by Point Reyes Bird Observatory, now Point Blue Conservation Science. Many trips with Rich Stallcup and other past and present Point Blue Conservation Science staff over the last 25 years have cemented his commitment to Point Blue. John spent the last 39 years of his engineering career with Parker Hannifin, where he served in the roles of engineering team member, engineering team manager, and customer service, giving him a deep appreciation of the importance of communication and collaboration between teams.

John graduated from Pomona College with a BA in Physics in 1976 and earned an MBA from UC Berkeley Hass School of Business in 1989. He and his wife Cynthia are currently volunteering with Petaluma Wetlands Alliance, an all-volunteer non-profit organization focused on the maintenance and preservation of Schollenberger Park and surrounding wetlands, as well as a long standing third grade wetlands education program.
