47th Annual Rich Stallcup Bird-A-Thon
September 15 – October 15, 2025

Thank you for being part of our flock and congratulations to all of our 47th Annual Rich Stallcup Bird-A-Thon counters, participants, and donors!

Together we raised $98,000 (and counting)!

We’ll announce final fundraising results, share the full bird list, and hand out prizes at a special Bird-A-Thon celebration in January 2026. Stay tuned for details!

2025 Bird-A-Thon Highlights

From first-time birders to longtime participants — many with fond memories of birding with Rich Stallcup, the namesake of this event — this year’s Bird-A-Thon brought together people of all ages and experiences. Highlights include:

A new team, the Quailblazers, started as a small group of bird enthusiasts in the heart of New Mexico but grew to include birders from all over.

One team member happened to be on vacation in Australia during their Bird-A-Thon day, so we have some exciting additions to this year’s bird species list, including the Superb Lyrebird and the Pink Robin.

The Young Friends of Point Blue hosted their second annual Bird-A-Thon team, this time on water as the Oarnithologists. The group combined a stroll along the Petaluma River Walk with kayaking on the slough, spotting birds along the way.

The Birdherders, representing Point Blue’s Working Lands program, identified 85 species during their day of birding in beautiful Pescadero, CA. They also completed the first of this year’s Marcia Grand Team Challenges by seeing Western Gulls, Pelagic Cormorant, California Sea Lion, Common Murre, and Black Oystercatcher — earning them a $250 donation bonus added to their fundraising total!

The Sonoma County Gray Jays celebrated their 30th Bird-A-Thon this year, identifying 141 species. Highlights included a Bank Swallow and a Hooded Merganser — both new additions to the team’s cumulative list. Many thanks to the Gray Jays for their longtime support and participation! See their 2025 Bird-A-Thon checklist here and an incredible summary of all of their Bird-A-Thons here.
