After Dark: Rock out at the Exploratorium with the Point Blue Marine Lab

Exploratorium

6:00 PM - 10:00 PM

Pier 15 (Embarcadero at Green Street) | San Francisco, CA 94111

What’s that in your ear? Join Point Blue Conservation Science’s marine laboratory team at After Dark: Rock Out at the Exploratorium on Thursday, August 28th to learn about the ear stones of fish, also known as otoliths. We find these bony structures in the diet samples of seabirds and sea lions, and they help us understand what types of fish these marine predators have been eating. Otoliths can provide a lot of information about the fish—species, size, age, and where the fish has been (to name just a few). Fun fact—otoliths also make great jewelry! Visit us to see some otoliths and learn more about the secrets these ear stones hold.
