Bird Walk and Banding Demo at Point Reyes Birding & Nature Festival

Palomarin Field Station

8:00 AM - 11:00 AM

999 Mesa Road, Bolinas, CA 94924 | Marin County

Join Point Blue’s avian ecologist Diana Humple for a bird banding demonstration at the Palomarin Field Station in Bolinas, CA. Celebrating its 60th anniversary, this is one of the oldest field stations in western North America, located in coastal Marin County, California. The research done here has made unique contributions to the fields of ornithology, ecology, and conservation. Our day will start by checking the mist nets for morning migrants and resident birds. Diana will describe the importance and process of banding birds and what key information they collect during these research opportunities. After the banding demonstration, Diana will lead a bird walk along a wide, gently sloping trail up the Arroyo Hondo, where we will encounter resident (e.g., Wrentit, Song Sparrow, Pacific Wren) and newly arrived migrant birds (e.g., Wilson’s Warbler, Warbling Vireo, Swainson’s Thrush, Olive-Sided Flycatcher).

Participants have to register for the festival first, and then sign-up for the bird banding demo and walk.
