Join us at the Exploratorium on Thursday, November 19 to discover what the diets of marine predators can reveal about what’s happening in the ocean.
In the Point Blue Marine Laboratory, we examine the contents of regurgitated pellets of Brandt’s cormorants (a common coastal seabird species) and scat of California sea lions to understand what these animals eat and how their diets change over time. What we look for in diet samples are: otoliths (fish earstones), fish scales, cephalopod beaks and more!
