Palm Theatre
Join us for a viewing of THE HOUSE OF SAND (2005), a Science on Screen selection at the Palm Theatre’s SLO Film Fest. The film is a mesmerizing portrait of people, place, and time set against an ever-shifting world of dunes and highlights the connection of geomorphology and anthropology.
Point Blue’s Dan Robinette, Principal Scientist & Coastal Program Leader, will participate in a panel discussion following the screening. He is joined by Saule Baipsys of The Dunes Center and Sebastian Alvarez of UC Santa Barbara’s Department of Geography to elaborate on the dune ecosystems and their never-ending shifts and changes through time. Additional Point Blue staff will be on site to discuss our work on the dunes.
Science on Screen creatively pairs film with lively introduction lessons by notable figures from the world of science, technology, and medicine.
