Roots Program: 2025 Recap
December 18, 2025

2025 has been a busy year for the Roots Program! We have allocated all our implementation funds to 115 habitat restoration projects in 39 counties, spanning Modoc County all the way to San Diego County. Restoration crews have been getting their hands dirty planting native plants in hedgerows to support pollinators, restoring riparian corridors, building beaver dam analogs (BDAs), removing invasive species, installing nest boxes, and so much more. 26 percent of projects have been completed and 68 percent are in active implementation. All projects will be completed by December 2026.
In addition to all the amazing restoration happening on the ground, our staff and partners have been engaging the community in a variety of ways, including hosting farm tours, sponsoring educational events/workshops, and hosting volunteer work days, to name a few. In April, we partnered with Kontent Productions to host a sold-out film event in Petaluma, targeted at helping families understand the importance of community-based restoration through learning about our program. To date, Point Blue’s STRAW (Students and Teachers Restoring A Watershed) team has engaged with 4,707 volunteers on STRAW-implemented projects. In August, we were excited to participate in the California Natural Resources Agency’s 30×30 Summit by co-hosting a field trip at a Roots project on an agave farm in San Diego County with Hummingbird Agrotek and the Resource Conservation District of Greater San Diego County.

If you are interested in learning more about any of the 115 Roots Projects, we invite you to visit our StoryMap, which we have recently updated to reflect all the amazing work that has happened over the past year. Lastly, if you haven’t viewed it already, we encourage you to watch The Roots Program: An Ecosystem of Partnerships film, available here.
Thank you for your continued support of Point Blue and The Roots Program!
